Monday 3/5/12 – at Finger Lake

Husky Homestead was hoping to see Jeff and team at Rainy Pass on Monday, but snow started coming in and the pilot could only take us to Finger Lake.

Finger Lake Photo - Iditarod 2012

Snapshot at Finger Lake checkpoint

Several teams came in to Finger when we were there, all looking strong. Anna and Kristy Berington were parked side by side attending to chores. The Busers (Martin & son Rohn) were snoozin’ in sleeping bags by their sleds. Sigrid Ekran’s team was enthusiastic as they pulled out back on to the trail, after she dropped a dog. Deets’ sister Claire is on Sigrid’s team. :)

Word from a race official at Finger Lake was that Jeff’s team “looked pretty” going into and out of Finger, where he stayed not but a minute.

Word from race HQ in Anchorage is that planes were downed until this weather blew through. Coltrane was still at Swentna being well-cared for by the volunteers remaining there until flights resumed. Sounded like he just has a sore wrist. That dog drives so hard! He should be back at HH with his buddies tomorrow!
