While we run the dogs, play with puppies, eat dinner and get some sleep – Jeff and the Team continue to lead the Kobuk 440!
When we left you last, the team was out of Ambler and heading for the turn-around point of Kobuk. Jeff arrived into the Kobuk checkpoint in first position Friday evening at 7:19pm and stayed for 18 minutes. While this short stop in the checkpoint does add to his accumulated rest, Jeff was probably sorting through a drop bag and snacking the team. Checker reports from this checkpoint said Jeff’s “dogs look amazing and happy rolling in the snow!” That’s what we like to hear!
Jeff headed back out on the trail and checked in and out of the Shungnak checkpoint on the return, and headed for Ambler where the Team took a 4 hour and 15 minute rest last night.
He is now making his way toward Selawik and seems to be about 5 miles out at this time. He continues to lead the pack, and needs 4 hours 15 minutes to complete his mandatory 20 hours. We anticipate that he will take his remaining rest here, making his last run from Selawik to the finish line in Kotzebue – but we could be wrong… so stay tuned!!
GO Jeff and Team!!
