We are in Anchorage for the start of Iditarod 41!
This is a busy week for mushers and dogs! On Monday the Husky Homestead team received their vet checks from our local veterinarian Dr. Jayne Hempstead. The dogs were weighed, had their temperature taken and were looked over from nose to tail to ensure that they are in the best of health and ready to make their way down the trail to Nome. Everyone came home with a clean bill of health!
While Jeff is in Anchorage, the dogs are still at home enjoying some short runs to keep them loose and let them stretch their muscles. Our handler Dave DeCaro is making sure they are well taken care of and he will be driving the team down to Anchorage on Friday afternoon.
Deets made the trip down with Jeff, Ellen and Carrie yesterday, and enjoyed a night of snuggling with our IditaRider Virgil who arrived last night. Virgil is all fired up for his ride in Jeff’s sled on Saturday during the Ceremonial Start and will be joining Jeff for the IditaRider lunch at the Millennium today where most mushers will meet their riders for the first time.
Stay tuned for the team line-up! We will be adding it to our “Dogs” page on our website and we’ll let you know when that goes live.
