It's easy to see why nature inspires award-winning artist Donna Gates King. At her doorstep, just outside Denali National Park, lies the vast wilderness that enlivens her work.
Donna is probably best known for her watercolors, though she is at ease with a variety of mediums. Her images depict Alaska's scenic beauty, wildlife and dog mushing. Since a kennel of over 85 sled dogs fills her back yard, Donna's knowledge of mushing is firsthand. Donna studied studio art and graduated with high honors from the University of Illinois Medical Center in 1980, with a masters degree in Medical Art. She came to Alaska that year and began work as a back country ranger and park naturalist at Denali National Park. There, she developed a deep respect for Alaska's wilderness spirit.
